Jon Chavez grew up wanting to be a Beatle. A musician since childhood, Jon first learned piano and then guitar before settling on bass as a young adult. He regrets giving up piano lessons as a kid but has made up for it by delving into a rigorous study of bass guitar technique.
Jon started playing in church almost 20 years ago and hasn't stopped since. He regularly plays in churches and church sponsored functions in the Chicagoland area, and for several months he stepped in as worship leader at his own Medinah Baptist Church.
Although he threatened to quit when the band refused to change their name to the Jon Chavez Bass Guitar Experience, his role in the DYB is mutually appreciated. Jon not only holds bass duties but sings backup vocals and is ready with a stand-up comedy routine during set transitions.
Jon cites Paul McCartney, Victor Wooten, and 1970’s funk among his influences. Besides the Beatles he loves Phil Keaggy, the Police, U2 and the Cars. He currently lives in St. Charles, Illinois with his wife Sharon, son Griffin and daughter Madelyn.
